Prior to joining University of Oklahoma in June 2003, Dr. Hawamdeh founded and directed the first Master of Science in Knowledge Management in Asia at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.  He was the founding president of the Information and Knowledge Management Society (iKMS) from 1998-2003. iKMS is a non profit organization aimed at serving information and knowledge Management professionals (www.ikms.org).

He is the founding Chair of the International Conference on Knowledge Management (ICKM). Next year conference is scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio (www.ickm2008.org).  He is also the founding chair of the Knowledge and Project Management Symposium (www.kpmsymposium.org).

Dr. Hawamdeh is the founding editor in chief of the first refereed journal in knowledge management. The Journal of Information & Knowledge Management (JIKM) is the official publication of the Information and Knowledge Management Society (iKMS) and published quarterly by World Scientific. (http://www.worldscinet.com/jikm/jikm.shtml).  He is also the editor of a book series on Innovation and Knowledge Management published by World Scientific.

Dr. Hawamdeh is the author and editor of Several books on knowledge management that include  “Information and Knowledge Society”, published by McGraw-Hill; “Knowledge Management: Cultivating the Knowledge Professionals”, published by Chandos Publishing, Oxford; “Knowledge Management: Nurturing Culture, Innovation and Technology”, Published by World Scientific; “People, Knowledge, and Technology, What Have We Learnt So Far?”, Published by World Scientific.

He guest edited a number of special journal issues including the special issue of the Journal of the American Society of Information Science (JASIST) on Knowledge Management in Asia; the special issue of the Journal of the Electronic Commerce Research on E-Commerce in Asia; the special issue of the Information Research Journal on Knowledge Management and the Emperor New Clothes; the special issue of the Singapore Journal of Library and Information Management (SJLIM) on  knowledge management.

Dr. Hawamdeh was the Managing Director of ITC Information Technology Consultant Ltd in the period from 1993-1997. Through this period the company developed and implemented several software products such as  the Document Abstraction and Control System (DACS);  Drawing Management System for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA);  Petronas Technical Standards;  and C2 Library Automation Software.

He delivered several keynote presentations at various conferences and events around the world including an invited talk at the United Nations World Summit on Information Society, which took place in Tunis from 16-18^th November 2005. The invited talk focused on the role of ICT and NII in e-Government and economic development (http://www.itu.int/wsis/).
