Course Description

The course covers the major theories and techniques of information processing and information retrieval. The main areas are information retrieval models, automatic indexing and classification, text processing methods, Design of interactive retrieval systems, Image and multimedia retrieval systems, Internet search engines, information visualization and human interfaces.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the concepts and principles of information retrieval systems (IRS).
  2. Understand the major information retrieval models.
  3. Familiar with the steps involved in implementing an information retrieval system.
  4. To understand the current trends in information retrieval systems and the role of IRS in new technologies such as document imaging and the Internet.
